Well-established East Village Nursery School. Founded in 1894, Third Street Music School Settlement continues to nurture the imaginations of children through high quality music, dance and visual arts instruction. Each year, the School serves some 3,500 students, including 1,500 in its Young People’s Program and 2,000 in its MILES (Music Instruction on the Lower East Side) Program in the public schools.

Third Street accepts students of all ages and levels of ability and offers individual and group instruction in a variety of musical instruments, musicianship, theory, history, composition, chamber music, orchestra and other ensemble classes. The School has especially strong programs in Suzuki piano and strings, as well as chamber ensembles. Students interested in dance can choose from ballet, Flamenco and tap, as well as classes in movement and tumbling. Instruction in drawing, painting, ceramics, and collage are also available, as are preschool arts programs ranging from a fully licensed nursery school, ‘Learning, the Arts and Me’ (LAM), to classes in music, creative movement and art for toddlers. As a settlement school, Third Street welcomes those who simply desire to study music, dance and art for their own satisfaction, as well as those who are highly motivated and intend to pursue a professional career.

Job Description:

Third Street Music School Settlement, the country’s oldest community school of music, seeks teaching artists for weekly woodwind and brass/percussion group classes in after school public school classes.
Group class teaching artists are responsible for teaching 8 to 12 students. Classes highlight music-making in social settings, fosters teamwork through group playing, and nurtures a supportive community for students and families to the daily study of music.

The ideal candidate is an exceptional musician who truly enjoys working with young musicians from diverse backgrounds in a school environment. Group classes will take place twice a week through May.

Third Street provides professional development throughout the year for teaching artists in areas including classroom management, lesson planning, pedagogy, teaching methods, and more. Teaching artists are paid per session.


Expertise on a woodwind and/or brass instrument
Passion for music education and working with beginning musicians with diverse backgrounds and learning styles
Classroom management experience in a smaller group setting
Woodwind instruction experience on flute, clarinet, saxophones
Brass experience on trumpet and trombone
Spanish speaking desired, but not required

Job description:

Areté Music Academy is seeking experienced piano instructor. Candidates must feel comfortable teaching

young children and beginning students and have experience teaching in both private and group settings. It

is a part-time position. Working hours are flexible.

Located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, Areté Music Academy is less than a mile from Fort Lee and about 2

miles from Manhattan. The school is easily accessible by public transportation; it’s an ideal place to work

Key responsibilities:

Areté Music Academy is seeking an experienced part-time music teacher with strong improvisation skills

for its early childhood program. Located in Englewood Cliffs, NJ, Areté Music Academy is 10 minutes

away by public transportation from GWB Port Authority

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach weekly classes, 45 minutes/each, to a small group of children from age 4-6.
  • Provide and review lesson plans with the Director
  • Maintain an open communication with director, students, and parents
  • A bachelor’s degree in education or performance is preferred, as well as Kodaly, Dalcroze or Orff
  • Must be available on Saturdays.

Education Through Music (ETM) seeks highly qualified music teachers (Pre-K through 8th Grade) who are passionate in their support of music as a core subject, and want to build music programs in New York City schools and forward their professional careers.

ETM is currently seeking music teachers in these areas:

Job responsibilities include:

  • Serving as school music faculty
  • Coordinating and developing the in-school music program with program staff
  • Producing two all-school concerts each year

Each music teacher’s program is designed in consultation with ETM Program Staff and based on ETM’s curriculum and benchmarks. Lesson planning is required and will be reviewed on a regular basis.

  • Singing, conducting, keyboard, guitar and presentation skills are all pluses.

Every Voice Choirs, an Ensemble in Residence in the Music and Music Education Program at TC, is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote the musical and personal growth of youth by empowering them to discover and share their voices with confidence and pride. The choirs are led by Dr. Nicole Becker, Music Director, Dr. Jeanne Goffi-Fynn, Voice Specialist, and graduate interns in the Music Education Program. There are currently four programs at TC – Kids Choir (ages 7-10); Youth Choir (ages 10-14); Audition Prep Workshop; and Young Men’s Vocal Workshop.
