Community Center in Mill Basin, Brooklyn – Instructor for Orff music class

A community center in Mill Basin in Brooklyn is seeking an instructor for their Orff Schulwerk based music class. The program is scheduled to begin in November 2015 for 2 groups: one for ages 5-8 and another for ages 9-12. Each group will meet for one hour every week. The pay for the instructor will be $100 (or possibly more) for 2 hours of teaching – most likely on Sundays. They are specifically looking for a teacher that will structure the class using the Orff approach of music and movement.

Girls Prep Bronx Middle School – Choir Director

Girls Prep Bronx Middle School is looking for an after school Choir Director to start a middle school Choral Group. Students have had a strong choral experience in Elementary School and have an instrumental program at the middle school during the school day. The ideal candidate would be comfortable doing various styles of music with the students (Jazz, Pop, Classical, Musicals) as well as continue working with students on singing in 2-3 part harmony and learning how to read music. The after school year starts Thursday, Sept. 10. After school hours are 4-6pm, Monday-Thursday, and 1:45-6pm on Friday. Brooklyn College Preparatory Center for the Performing Arts is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Dalcroze teacher who would be available for the 2015-2016 school year on Wednesday or Thursdays. We are also looking for a Saturday substitute teacher.

Music and Movement is offered both as part of our first-year Suzuki program and as an introductory music class for children 3-6 years old.

Description: This class is designed as the first structured music class for children 3-6 years old, based upon the principles of Emile Jaques-Dalcroze. The Dalcroze approach to music education teaches an understanding of the basic concepts of music through an approach incorporating rhythmic movement, aural training, and physical, vocal and instrumental improvisation. Children learn while doing what they love most: walking, running, skipping, singing, and playing instruments. This also provides an opportunity for children to interact with other children in their age group.

Please note that teaching additional classes may be possible, subject to the skills of the applicant.

Salary: Teaching rate is dependent on education and experience.

The Children’s Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola – Internship

The Children’s Choir of St. Ignatius Loyola is seeking an intern for our program. The Church is located on Park Avenue between 83rd and 84th streets. There are 3 choirs in our children’s choir program, and we are looking for an intern who can help us during rehearsals for our 2 youngest choirs. These singers range in age from 6 through 11, and they rehearse on Wednesday afternoons (3:15-4:15 and 4:30-5:20). St. Ignatius has a formidable music program which includes 16 concerts in the upcoming season. The children perform on 2 of these with professional orchestra, as well as on Sundays once/month. The intern’s commitment would be solely on Wednesday afternoons, from 2:30 pm until 6 pm. Assistance is needed with attendance, music distribution, music reading, pencils, bandaids(!), bathroom breaks, and other housekeeping items. Ability to accompany the choir is not a requirement. Opportunity exists to take on an artistic leadership role (warm up the choir, direct a sectional, etc), if appropriate.

The stipend is $1,500.00 for an undergraduate (vocal) music education major, and $2,000 for a graduate student. This is for the entire season. Certified teachers who may be interested in gaining some experience with children’s choruses may also apply.

Youth Pride Chorus – Assistant Director/Program Assistant

New York City’s Youth Pride Chorus galvanizes the voices of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and straight youth ages 13-22 in the movement for change. YPC concerts feature these young artists in exciting, high-energy performances of both classic and current pop, rock, and folk songs, original choreography, and spoken word. Through fun and rigorous weekly rehearsals, YPC singers train in voice, dance, and song interpretation, developing both artistic excellence and leadership skills.

Hours: Approximately 10-15 hours per week, fewer hours early in the concert cycle, more hours closer to performance. The YPC season runs September through June. This season, YPC will be traveling to Denver for the GALA Choruses Festival in July.

Pays $4000 a season.

Preschool Music & Movement Teacher, Englewood, NJ

This is a pre-school (Pre-K through K) Music & Movement teaching position combined with a fifth grade class that includes guiding the creation of an opera for 5th grade students according to the “Creating Original Opera” Metropolitan Opera Guild program teaching 3 days per week.  This teacher will work independently but in a shared space with the Grade 1 – 4 Music Teacher and collaboratively with that teacher on the 5th Grade Opera.  Inspiring these students to love music and providing the age appropriate skills for these students to progress through a whole school curriculum is the overall goal of this division’s musical experience.
Specific Duties:
  • Pre-School 3 music classes

  • 5th Grade Opera & music classes
  • Accompanying, leading, or performing in Lower School Performances

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
